The name Connecticut came from the Algonquian word “quinatucquest” and it means “upon the long river”. The first European explorer who came in Connecticut was Adriaen Block. He explored it in 1614. In 1630s, English established their first major settlement. As Connecticut has a long coastline on Long Island Sound, it has a temperate climate. It has an area of 5,543 square miles which makes it the 48th largest area in the US. It has ranked 29th in the US for its population of 3,518,288. The capital of Connecticut is Hartford. Some part of Connecticut has a humid continental climate and the rest of the parts near the shoreline have a humid subtropical climate. The capital city, Hartford has a humid continental climate.
